Corruption (Iran Republic Interview)

5. As you have promised, you are fighting against corruption. However, some analysts say that this is propaganda for the coming general election. How do you respond and will this policy continue?

I am as committed as ever to root out corruption because it is a cancer that destroys society. We must nip corrupt practices in the bud before they spread further, because once it takes root and becomes an accepted practice, it is extremely difficult to remedy. – prevention will always be better than cure. There will be some people who will always be cynical and be suspicious of the motives behind our actions, but I believe the overwhelming majority of the Malaysian people are behind me in this fight. The simple message is – if the authorities compile enough evidence to the point that they are confident of securing a conviction then they will act. This approach will remain the same, before and after the elections.
