PM: Rail project stays shelved

PUTRAJAYA, Tues. - The decision to defer the RM14 billion double- tracking
rail project stays.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said there had been no
change in the Government's decision to shelve the project indefinitely.
Abdullah said he was unaware of any plans to revive the project, which
was put on the backburner in December 2003 as part of the Government's
reining-in of spending on large infrastructure projects.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy was reported in newspapers
today as saying that his ministry had proposed reviving the railway
