PM: Use new technology for batik
KUALA LUMPUR, Fri. - The Prime Minister urged batik manufacturers to
blend the old with the new by taking advantage of technology to improve
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the industry would do well to
update production methods while ensuring the product's quality and
Abdullah called for more research and development in such areas as
natural dyes and experiment with ways of production other than the
tjanting or hand block.
"Batik is considered an art and thus, by nature, labour intensive and
reliant on the skills of the craftsmen.
